Budapest
The last day of 2011 was spent at the Palace History Museum of Budapest (after we shopped for lots of food at the supermarket around the corner where it was 30+ degrees). Our water heater didn't work so we got in contact with our landlord and had somebody fix that. I was lucky, but Gwendy and Marieke had a very very cold shower in the morning. The museum didn't really interest me much (old furniture etc), but it is part of the cultural experience ;) After a coldish cappucino we checked out the Matthias Church in daylight and enjoyed the views from the Fishermans' Bastion.
Since it was NYday
Our last full day was there and we decided to organise ourself for the day after. We bought metro tickets and walked along the Andrassy Utca (world heritage street) to check out the Opera. We had another cappucino at Coffee Heaven (different one this time) and I met Juri and walked to the St Stephens Church with him and along the Danube back to our street where we had some Palinka and beer. Time for me to meet up with the girls in the Old Men's Pub again for our last meal (joined by other Esther as well). Enjoying some live music and home early (at 10) to pack our bags and have some tea before bed. Wednesday was time to head home again, which went all perfectly. A great holiday!

Job misery
Jobhunting = misery. That's basically a quick summary of the past 2 months. Thank goodness for friends and family to keep me entertained. Turning 30 while being jobless, single and living in a student housing building isn't really something to be proud of I have to say. Next year I hope to be away again in a warmer place when 31 is on the doorstep. It was a good party though!
Spanish classes have started again and we are now into changing verbs into different times and other miserable things. It's hard and not really my type of learning but it has to be done at one point. I'd like to book a few weeks Spanish language school somewhere in 2012, preferably with cooking classes and some diving... but to be able to do that the Job Thing has to be resolved. It's crap at the moment. Probably go and try to get a job at the tax office call centre in January, to keep me occupied for a bit and to be able to support myself. Like I said: misery.
Good things happened as well, I headed to Amsterdam again to meet up with some former colleagues and our bookclub. Thea came over for a weekend and we played lots of games and ate 'oliebollen'. That's the way to do it! In December I had 3 job interviews and got turned down for all of the jobs. Great score ahum. On the bright side I went to see Veldhuis en Kemper with my brother in Franeker which was fun. And finally it is Christmas time, my favourite holiday. Time to go to the farm and spent some days with my parents and brother and just read a lot. Next week I'm flying out to Budapest with Gwendy, Marieke and Judith, awesome! A great way to end a year I'd say :) In 2012 the story and pictures will follow, so for now: A very merry Christmas and an awesome 2012!

Ruud van Empel
Yesterday afternoon my mom and I headed to the Groninger Museum to explore. I had checked out the website beforehand and was intriged by the photo of Ruud van Empel, so we started with the exhibition of his work. It was amazing, overwhelming, intruiging, beautiful and surprising. I love it and especially this piece:
which is called Theatre #5. In real life it is 3 m by 1 m. And I want it. Obviously not in that size (too big, not enough money), but a poster would be great or even a postcard. But I can't find anything, not even on the internet. My search will continue of course, because I'm mesmerised by it. Everytime you look at it you'll find something new. You can see his work until the end of November here in Groningen and I highly recommend going if you have the chance!
