Museum N8
The first half of the week was pretty busy workwise. Long days and an introduction meeting on Tuesday morning where new staff of the UvA were invited to talk with someone from the board of the UvA, see some historic buildings (het maagdenhuis), learned about what the UvA is about and what they want the next couple of years.
Thursdaynight my private life came to life again: Gerrit visited. He had had a course near Rotterdam during the day and came to see me and catch up on his way back. After a lovely dinner and a nice chat he had to continue home and I went in early, because a busy weekend was lying ahead: Museum N8 in Amsterdam!!
Gwendy arrived on Friday evening, we chatted and had a good sleep so as to be ready for the day ahead :) Saturday morning my lovely freezer arrived and it is a beauty. Working well, very quiet. Lovely. We went shopping instantly to fill it up :) We went to the market as well and besides buying loads of vegetables and fruits we bought ourselves an applebeignet! A quick visit to the library and off we went to go shopping in Amsterdam CBD. Lots of shopping, but not too much bying... it's hard to find nice clothes that are affordable. A well, I bought loads of books (mostly about the UK, Gwendy and I are going there next summer for 2.5 weeks to tour around whoehoe!) and a new doona cover, so I am very happy!
Back to Diemen to drop everything off, have a quick bite to eat and dress for the evening. It was museumnight in Amsterdam, which means all museums are open until 2 o'clock at night! My boss co-organises this, so she gave me 2 free tickets (and it's a shame not too use them ;)
The trip to get there was entertainment enough: our tramdriver took a wrong track and got lost... which isn't too bad, but when passengers tried to help her get in the right direction again she completely flipped! Someone is in definate need of a very very long holiday hahahaha. So we decided to be on the safe side and get off the tram onto another one hahahaha. After this exciting ride we ended at the Museumplein to start our cultural night:
We started at the Van Gogh museum, went to the Diamont museum, the Rijksmuseum (where there were chocolate fountains.... lovely! and yes we tasted ;) The new church was next and then the plan was to go to the hortus (botanical gardens). A well... that was the plan.....We needed to take tram 14 and could just hop onto the last tram that night.... unfortunately after 15 minutes or so I discovered we went the wrong way. And not just a little bit the wrong way... nooooo, we went west and wanted to go east. OOPS. Very much oops, since that was the last tram going and no tram going back. OOPS.... Tram nr 14 goes east as well, we just took the wrong one.... Oops. So we got off in the middle of somewhere in the west of Amsterdam, somewhere in Slotervaart. It was dark, cold and quiet... but we were together! Thank goodness this is a big city, so they have night buses going every half hour during the weekend haha! First we tried a bus, but that one didn't go into towncentre and we had to pay for that one (with our N8 ticket we could get onto all sorts of public transport for free, except for that bus. hmmm). After a quick encounter with a creepy guy the right bus finally showed up and we went back towards CBD :D
The sad part was, that by the time we got back there, it was almost 2 o'clock, so no more time to go to the botanical gardens. A well, we took the nightbus to Diemen and after spending the last 2.5 hours in public transport instead of the botanical gardens, we arrived home safe and sound hehe. What an adventure, loads of fun and a night to remember hihihi.
A good night sleep and a shower did wonders, so we went to the Rembrandtplein and had brunch. After that I discoverd an AUSSIE BAR there!!!! Wow, how cool is that! Ozzie Ozzie Ozzie, Oi Oi Oi!!! Their slogan is: lousy food and warm beer... nobody but Aussies would take that as a recommendation for a pub haha. I'll take a picture next time I'm there! Back to central station to see Gwendy off to Groningen again and I went back to Diemen to chill out before another busy week (workwise).
