Darwin to Broome part 2

My very first kangaroo sighting in Ozzie at our campsite in Victoria River:

So that was El Questro with it's beautiful gorge. We left next morning to go to Emma Gorge, but Sharpie decided we needed to head back into Kununurra first to get some more food, as our order at a roadhouse was cancelled. Lisa, Fridi and me in Kununurra with our beer for 7 nights :)

So after a quick return there we finally set of for Emma Gorge, which was lovely! We had some lunch and went to the Pentacost Lookout, where we took the picture of me standing on top of the table which I put on yesterday. We were bushcamping that night and since we were a bit delayed we went to a very far away spot and got bogged in the sand with the truck just 10 metres from the campsite haha. After about half an hour we managed to get the truck moving again and we could set up camp. No toilets, no showers, just us in swags and a campfire. The sky is beautiful out there and there are sooo many stars, unbelievable. We could see the milky way clearly and ofcourse the southern cross. A wonderfull night! We headed to mount Barnett campsite the next morning, parked the bus and went off to Manning Gorge for a nice walk and a great swim. We jumped off cliffs over 10 metres high, which doesn't sound too high, but kinda is when your standing on top of them ;) Nice and refreshing and nice to be out of the truck for most of the day. To get to the gorge we had to swim over the river with our daypacks in little plastic containers, very funny (and a bit scary, cause if you tip it over you can say bye bye to your camera). One of the many Kites we saw on the jumping croc tour, and which are all around the Kimberleys as well.

Since we had such full on days I decided to go to bed early again and get a good night sleep. The going to bed early went fine, except for the sleeping part... A well. The next morning was an early one again:5.30 and without breakfast we headed straight for Tunnel Creek, which is exactly what it says: a tunnel/cave with a creek running through it. The walk in itself was nice: beautiful surroundings, but the little stones were killing my feet. After some breakfast we headed to Windjana Gorge for a short walk to see some of our lovely Freshwater Crocs! This one is a salt water one I saw on the Adelaide River with Katie and Ben. The freshie you can see in the post I put up yesterday. They were chilling out on the banks and one was so close we could touch it if we wanted to. Great picture opportunities ofcourse. Time to head to Derby for a nice supermarket stop in what felt like ages and then our last few sightseeing things of the tour: King George Lookout, the big Boab Prison Tree near Derby (where aboriginals who were captured were taken until they were sold out to pearlers in Broome to work like slaves in the pearling industry there, nasty history!) and after a few hours drive with our last loo stop along the highway we ended up in BROOME. Civilisation was waiting for us: showers! We settled in, had a free dinner and a few beers and some of the group went to a pub along the way, but I decided it was time for a good night sleep. Yesterday I woke early again, thats what you get after all those early morning rises. Time to do laundry, head into town to get some groceries and internet and then finally off to see sunset at Cable Beach. The backpackers is fine and it's nice to have a proper bed for a few nights. Today I bought a nice, warm sweater to keep myself warm in the cold nights to come in Karijini NP and later on in Tasmania ofcourse. Now I am off into town to look around a bit, than more beach and sunset tonight and off to bed early because we have our pickup at 6.30 More news probably in 11 days, in Perth. Katie and Ben on my last night there. Thanks again for everything guys!!!
